Why MES?

Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is a term which was first discussed in the 1990’s to describe the functionality of software aimed at providing operational management and providing an interface between ERP systems and shop floor control systems. Over the years a set of standards, ISA S95 and MESA have been created to define MES functionality standards. Our systems have been designed to comply with these standards.

So why are MES Solutions important to a manufacturing operational environment?

The MESA model describes functionality such as:

  • Tracking
  • Genealogy
  • Planning
  • Scheduling
  • Performance
  • Resource allocation
  • Labour management
  • Quality control

But what are the benefits and value that this brings to a manufacturing company?

EmsPT would like to consider "why MES Solutions?" from two perspectives;

·        The Challenges it Solves
Challenges
On this site we have provided a set of challenges which our customers regularly ask us about including: schedule adherence, on time deliver in full, production efficiency, brand protection and reduced lead times…

These challenges align with four main categories:
·         Cost of Goods
·         Compliance and Quality
·         Customer Supply
·         New Product Development and Line Extensions

Why MES? It has the capabilities to control operational and performance challenges facing manufacturing companies today and provides the intelligence to allow for innovation of new products and processes.

At EmsPT we like to think of 'Why MES' in other terms aligned with operational interaction and manufacturing intelligence which we call Manufacturing Operational Excellence

The diagram below illustrates how the pillars of our MES solutions targets real manufacturing operational challenges. We have a daily impact on manufacturing operations, performance and compliance while providing information to provide intelligence to support manufacturing agility and innovation.
