Business Intelligence

EmsPT is the answer when you need to know what is going on, not at some point in the future, but here and now. Gone are the days when a month end or production period end report is adequate. The wide scale use of the internet by society at large has changed expectations. The new expectation is for information that is specific to the user’s needs to be available here and now, on tap, on demand and correct.

Business Intelligence is about the provision of that information. Manufacturing controllers and other devices are awash with data that can be easily accessed and translated into meaningful information that becomes business intelligence through the user’s interaction with it. Business Intelligence systems not only take manufacturing data from the shopfloor or plant, or from manual entry in sequential operational processes; they also combine this with more static information that is at the enterprise level and information that is semi-dynamic such as scheduling. From this combination a clear view can be obtained of what is going on and any corrective actions made – there and then whilst the opportunity still exists.

In use Business Intelligence systems show the following characteristics; management meetings and operational meetings are reduced in frequency and in duration by all participants having information that is from the same source. The participants (usually with differing functional responsibilities) each know what the issues are before the meeting and frequently have addressed any problems arising, before the meeting. They know this because the Business Intelligence system disseminates functionally specific and business indicators using intranet and extranet technology, in real time.

Thus everyone is aware of the issues and meetings become less necessary to keep everything producing efficiently. The same information is frequently made available to the whole company through the use of large screens around the business that show indicators such as OEE, Downtime, Throughput and Quality.
