MFI Manufacturing based in Howden, East Yorkshire is the production facility for the well known flat-pack furniture brand. Employing over 800 people on the Howden site the company has a throughput of 100,000 units per week.

Challenge

Bottlenecks on the packing lines were proving troublesome. An initial PLC resolved the problem but could not provide the data analysis and reporting required to control production.

Solution

Wonderware InTouch Software had proved successful on MFI's laminating lines and the technology was therefore chosen to resolve the bottleneck issues.

Implementation

EmsPT consultants worked with MFI to pilot the solution. Initially deployed on one line InTouch proved successful identifying stoppages and their causes and so enabling efficient solutions to be evaluated. The pilot was subsequently rolled out to the full packing facility.
